Underwood Fruit is the brainchild of Bob and Janet Underwood, northern Michigan natives who grew up among the orchards of Old Mission Peninsula and built their farm into one of the region's largest growers of tart cherries. The Underwoods were named Cherry Industry Man and Woman of the Year in 1996 for their years of service to the farming industry. Bob also helped launch the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Foundation, dedicated to agricultural research into tart and sweet cherry production.
