| The American Tarpan Studbook Association was formed in 1972 to preserve, protect and promote the Tarpan horse in America. Tarpans remain a very rare breed, with less than 80 animals in the current breeding pool. All of the Tarpans that are currently in North America are descended from only six Tarpans imported from Germany in the 1950's. The primary goal of the ATSA for the past 20 years has been to foster breeding
efforts to increase the number of horses.
With the retirement of Candy Vorderbrug in late 2003, the work that she devoted so many years to has now been taken on by the renamed NORTH AMERICAN TARPAN ASSOCIATION (NATA). Inquiries are welcome! Please direct correspondence to Lynda Konrad, Director. |
